To Edit a Default Catalog Item

The DataGroup Catalog Editor is the DataGroup System editing interface. The following task shows you how to modify the default elbow fitting using the DataGroup Catalog Editor.

In the Mechanical discipline catalog, that rectangular elbow component contains DataGroup properties that define its geometry. Dimensional properties directly modify outlet sizes, bend radii, vane size, and flange size. Other DataGroup properties modify component symmetry and relationships between properties such as the ratio of the radii to the connection or outlet sizes. Still other DataGroup properties modify only the data associated with placed elements such as part and family, insulation symbology, and air flow rates.

The property that changes a radius elbow to a mitre elbow is named ElbowType. It is by default, a hidden property so it does not appear in the Instance Data panel. It does appear in the DataGroup Catalog Editor as an entry for the elbow catalog type.

  1. Select ( Catalog Editor ).
  2. Scroll through the list of catalog items on the left side of the dialog, and expand the item RectangularElbow category and pick the Default Rectangular catalog item.

The item DataGroup definition and properties list appears.

  3. Select the Elbow Type property.

    The row is highlighted.

Note: The checked box in the Catalog Editor's Hidden column indicates that the property is hidden. To make the property visible, uncheck the box.
  4. Place the cursor in the Value cell next to the Elbow Type property.

A drop down list listing the available values for the property appears.

  5. Select 0-Mitered for the value.

    The value 0-Mitered is applied.
  6. Save the catalog changes by selecting > Save in the catalog editor's taskbar.
  7. Exit and select the ( Refresh Catalogs ).

The catalog is now edited, and the default rectangular elbow is now the mitred elbow.
